Keep up to date with the latest news in school here.
The children (and staff) in EYFS were very excited to receive a special delivery on Monday. Nursery and Reception classes have 10 eggs each, which they will be looking after until they hatch into baby chicks!
The eggs are in a special box to keep them warm until they hatch then we will be able to help care for the chicks with food, water and some gentle hugs!
We were expecting the chicks to hatch from Wednesday but one of the chicks in Reception was too keen to meet us and hatched out on Tuesday morning while we were all working hard to do some writing about the eggs.
Reception have started to explore their new class text, Juniper Jupiter! Juniper is a superhero on a mission to find a sidekick! We have designed our own Superhero names and decided on our superpowers. On Friday we drew ourselves as superheroes and some of us started writing about our character. We really impressed Mrs Deavin and Mrs Murray and all sat at tables together to do our drawings. We have also looked at sidekicks and talked about the characters in the book who came to audition for the role.
On Thursday our Early Years and Key Stage 1 classes took part in a balance bike workshop - they had fun riding bikes in the hall! The children learned to push the bikes with their feet then had a go at lifting their feet to balance and even tested out their driving skills under a limbo pole and over a ramp!
Here are some photos of Reception class in their workshop.
Reception have been working hard in literacy today and really impressed us with their enthusiasm and focus.
This morning we met The Story Friends who helped us to learn about different parts of a story. We helped them to find the Opening, Build Up, Problem and Ending of our class text, Star in the Jar.
This afternoon we used what we had learned to draw the Opening of our story. Lots of us sat together to draw our picture - take a look at some of our fantastic pieces of work!
This morning Year 4 were surprised to find lots of golden tickets in our classroom. They had been hidden in very unusual places like plant pots, inside books and even on our classroom displays. Everyone in Year 4 had a ticket which entitled them to 10 minutes of extra play time and a chance to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have just finished reading this book and were very excited to watch the film. Well done Year 4, after all your hard work in class and at the Decade Concert, you thoroughly deserve this treat.
Year 4 have been practising Coldplay songs in preparation for our performance at the Decade Concert. We had lots of fun singing and dancing along to some fantastic acts before it was our chance to shine. Our singing was fantastic and we made Caedmon proud. Well done Year 4, you are superstars!
In nursery, our topic for this term is 'celebrations'. We took this week to celebrate our class toy Ollie the Octopus' 3rd birthday! We celebrated by planning an event for him, by making him birthday cards, singing happy birthday and of course... having a party!
Next week, we will be focusing on the celebration of 'Hanukkah'.
Year 4 enjoyed the first session with our sports coach. We practised moving in different ways, such as moving high, low and at different speeds. We particularly enjoyed playing a game in which we had to hop and jump to avoid being tagged.
In nursery this week, we have been celebrating the Indian festival 'Diwali'. We have explored different aspects of the festival including creating different rangoli and mehndi patterns, trying Indian food and we even had a special guest from upper school to discuss his own family traditions for Diwali!
We hope all of our families at Caedmon who celebrate Diwali had a wonderful time.
Some children from KS1 and KS2 visited Riverside Bowling to take part in a competition. The children had so much fun learning to bowl and were so supportive of each other's achievements.
