Keep up to date with the latest news in school here.
We had an interest in different types of food in nursery this week. Due to this, we had a food tasting session! We tried grapefruit, raspberries, strawberries, bananas, watermelon, pomegranate, peaches, apricots, blueberries and we even made our own fruit juice! The children were so confident trying the different fruits, we are so proud of them. We even wrote a shopping list for our next food tasting test!
Reception have been busy this week with lots of different activities. In our literacy sessions The Colour Monster had made some labels to help him with tidying up - we read his labels and matched them to the correct objects, using our best Fred-talking. We then matched some labels in our books and lots of us had a go at writing our own labels for objects in the classroom.
We have met Numberblock 4 in our daily Maths sessions - he has helped us with our subitising and showed us how he can make lots of different shapes. We had a go at making some 4 pictures with some square stickers on Thursday. On Friday we used 4 beads to make different arrangements and compare how they were the same or different to our friends'.
Of course we've had lots of fun playing too - we got some new dinosaurs, cars and small world figures which we have had lots of fun with. Inside we have been exercising our fingers with some wool weaving cards and outside we have been building with the blocks and crates and have enjoyed exploring in the Nature Hub. We've also had a pumpkin tray to explore and a shape matching activity with a tray full of tins and lids.
This week Year 1 have been writing their own story of Old Bear. Today we illustrated our front covers and learned about titles. We have been working very hard to complete our books and are looking forward to sharing them with our families.
Year 2 have been captured by the story of George’s Marvellous Medicine. We love to read a chapter of our class chapter book every night before home time. We sit back, relax and have the fire burning whilst we enjoyed listening. We are around half way through the book and once we complete the story we plan to create our own marvellous potions.
Nursery have so much fun going to the library on a Wednesday. We all take it in turns to choose a special book from the school library, which we get to take home and bring back the next week. We then choose a class story to read in the library. This week we chose 'Dear Zoo', we found this very funny!
Year 6 were visited by The History Bloke this week. They researched what life was like on the home front during WWII and how Gateshead was effected during the war. The children looked at the belongings of an evacuee, an Air Raid Warden (ARW) and what might have been found in a typical home during this time. The children then tested their knowledge of British and German aircraft and if they could spot different planes in the sky.
Year 2 have been having the most fun over the past few weeks exploring their new Science topic ‘materials’. We were given a very important job to support an Arctic explorer with what materials would be most suitable to survive an expedition.
We experiments adding water as rain to three different materials to see which were most suitable.
We are very excited to continue learning about the different properties and suitability of materials.
We have been working hard in our ReadWriteInc sessions each morning and we have learned lots of sounds with Fred the Frog. He has been coming to help us at home time too with some games on our board. We are spending lots of time making our own marks in our choosing time too.
We explored how The Colour Monster feels on his first day at school and shared our own ideas about the start of our year. We have also started writing about the monster and did an amazing job with some simple sentences today!
Year 5 have been planning their independent write based on the book Farther this week.
They have used some amazing vocabulary to describe the setting- we can’t wait to read their work!
Year 4 have been learning about computer networks today. Each table in class represented a different network and we sent messages to various locations. We used string to record the journey of our messages and soon realised that all networks are connected via a router and the internet.
