  • Year 1 Learning in the Classroom Environment

Fri 27 Oct 2023 Mrs Emmerson

The children have made an excellent start to Year 1 this half term.  We have learnt so much already and we were all very proud to take home our own Old Bear books today.  The children have also had a chance to explore and learn through the resources in our classroom and in our outdoor environment.

  • Shipley Art Gallery

Mon 23 Oct 2023 Mrs Hannon

On Friday, Year 4 enjoyed a trip to the Shipley Art Gallery. We explored different types of art on display, including sculptures, paintings, drawings and textiles.  After a look around, we started our sculpture workshop, during which we explored ceramic sculptures. We discussed the function of some sculptures, their decorative features and identified our favourite pieces. We were very excited to enter a room full of the work of Henry Rothschild, we have been learning about this artist in lessons and it was lovely to see his work.

Our favourite part of the trip was our hands on session, we each made a ceramic vessel using clay. To make the basic structure we used a pinching method to mould the clay into shape, then we used tools to add decoration to our sculptures. This was very messy, but lots of fun!

  • A mysterious hole, jumbled sentences, the number 5 and outdoor fun!

Sun 22 Oct 2023 Mrs Deavin

Last week was another busy one for Reception. The children have been exploring our class text, The Something - a mysterious hole has appeared in a little boy's garden and he is determined to find out what is down there. The boy from the story needed our help to sort out the sentences he had written because his dog had ripped them up! The children worked hard to read the words and put them back in the right order.

We have also been working hard on our writing and have been writing our own letters, words and even sentences!!

In Maths we have been exploring different ways to represent the number 5 and thinking about how we know when we can see 5.

The children were excited to find some new resources in the outdoor area too and had fun creating their own games with their friends.

    What a busy week!

  • Year 1 Kirkley Hall Forest

Fri 13 Oct 2023 Mrs Emmerson

Year 1 had a fantastic day at Kirkley Hall Forest.  We explored the Bear Trail and found a stream at the bottom of the woods.  We then went on a tree seed hunt and matched them to trees in the forest.  After a cosy lunch in the Outdoor Learning Classroom we headed back to the forest to explore which animals live in our forests, then we finished up by making some animal dens.

  • BSL Buddies

Thu 12 Oct 2023 Mrs Hannon

Year 4 take part in a BSL Buddies lesson every week, in this lesson we learn how to use British Sign Language to communicate with others. This week we explored signs for our favourite foods, such as pizza, salad and ice cream! We can’t wait to share the signs with our friends and family at home.

  • Food tasting in nursery!!

Thu 12 Oct 2023 Miss Collins

We had an interest in different types of food in nursery this week. Due to this, we had a food tasting session! We tried grapefruit, raspberries, strawberries, bananas, watermelon, pomegranate, peaches, apricots, blueberries and we even made our own fruit juice! The children were so confident trying the different fruits, we are so proud of them. We even wrote a shopping list for our next food tasting test!

  • Reception Round-Up

Fri 06 Oct 2023 Mrs Deavin

Reception have been busy this week with lots of different activities. In our literacy sessions The Colour Monster had made some labels to help him with tidying up - we read his labels and matched them to the correct objects, using our best Fred-talking. We then matched some labels in our books and lots of us had a go at writing our own labels for objects in the classroom.
We have met Numberblock 4 in our daily Maths sessions - he has helped us with our subitising and showed us how he can make lots of different shapes. We had a go at making some 4 pictures with some square stickers on Thursday. On Friday we used 4 beads to make different arrangements and compare how they were the same or different to our friends'.
Of course we've had lots of fun playing too - we got some new dinosaurs, cars and small world figures which we have had lots of fun with. Inside we have been exercising our fingers with some wool weaving cards and outside we have been building with the blocks and crates and have enjoyed exploring in the Nature Hub. We've also had a pumpkin tray to explore and a shape matching activity with a tray full of tins and lids.

Fri 06 Oct 2023 Mrs Emmerson

This week Year 1 have been writing their own story of Old Bear.  Today we illustrated our front covers and learned about titles.  We have been working very hard to complete our books and are looking forward to sharing them with our families.

  • Our favourite way to end the day

Fri 06 Oct 2023 Miss Birkbeck

Year 2 have been captured by the story of George’s Marvellous Medicine. We love to read a chapter of our class chapter book every night before home time. We sit back, relax and have the fire burning whilst we enjoyed listening. We are around half way through the book and once we complete the story we plan to create our own marvellous potions.

  • Nursery's Library Trip!

Thu 05 Oct 2023 ,Miss Collins

Nursery have so much fun going to the library on a Wednesday. We all take it in turns to choose a special book from the school library, which we get to take home and bring back the next week. We then choose a class story to read in the library. This week we chose 'Dear Zoo', we found this very funny!
