Implementation

PE at Caedmon Primary School provides challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities including; invasion games, net & wall games, strike and field games, gymnastics, dance, swimming and outdoor & adventurous activities The long-term plan sets out the PE units, which are to be taught throughout the year, and ensures that the requirements of the National Curriculum are fully met.

Pupils participate in two high quality PE lessons each week, covering a sporting discipline every half term. In addition, children are encouraged to participate in the varied range of extra- curricular activities including after school sport clubs.  We actively encourage local sports club to communicate their details so we can promote this with the hope children will continue with sport outside of school.

Entwined in amongst all we do in PE are our core school values. Children are constantly reminded of the 6 R’s and how they link to sports and attitudes. Through this reflection with the children we can embed life skills children can take with them year on year.

Children are invited to attend competitive sporting events within the local area provided by Gateshead School Sports Partnership. This is an inclusive approach, which endeavours to encourage not only physical development but also mental well-being. These events also develop teamwork and leadership skills and are very much enjoyed by the children.

Children participate in workshops covering a variety of sports throughout the year, for example, Multi-Skills events, Mini Fencing and football. These provide the children with an opportunity to develop new skills, improve their fitness and try something new. Keep an eye out on our news page for updates on what workshops we have been doing.

Each year, our year five children are invited to become Young Sports Leaders. They develop into sporting role models for the younger children in our school, assisting with lunchtime active play, ensuring there is plenty of resources for children during break times and organising mini games.

Across the year, children from Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 attend swimming lessons at our local pool. Lessons run throughout the school year allowing children to develop swimming skills.
