At Caedmon Primary School we believe computing to be more than just part of a broad and balanced curriculum, but a life skill in a constantly changing environment. Computing and technology plays such a vital role in day-to-day life, so much so children are becoming more digitally aware than adults. This is something that we celebrate at Caedmon and want children to be at the forefront of new technology with a thirst for learning that is out there.

Throughout their time at Caedmon Primary School, we strive to encourage children and build their aspirations of life after education. Children at Caedmon have already recognised jobs such as ‘engineers, app designers, sound technicians, store worker, air traffic control, armed forces and game designers’ as future jobs involving computing. We believe that any job is an accomplishment and children must be exposed to the possibilities not just in the North East but globally. Our computing curriculum aims to do this by providing children with multiple skills for future jobs, such as learning how to code, understanding what algorithms are and how they work, as well as debugging and understanding the art of computational thinking. These skills will help provide essential knowledge to enable children to negotiate effectively and safely in the digital environment during and after school.
