  • Caedmon Visit the Pantomime

Sun 13 Dec 2015 Woodward and Bernstein

Ask children in our school if there was anything unusual about Wednesday December 2nd 2015 and some would, quite rightly, say, "That was the day Gary Neville unexpectedly got the Valencia manager's job". If you ask them for more details however, they'd probably say, "Sorry, I can't remember - Mr. Wisby and the teachers took us to the pantomime that day and it was so exciting, everything other than that was a bit of a blur."

In what is now an annual tradition, the entire school put down their pens, pencils, chalk and quills to board a fleet of buses headed towards the Theatre Royal to see this year's performance of Dick Whittington.

The yearly extravaganza was enjoyed by all*. A series of semi-random events vaguely linked to the original story played themselves out, including songs, dancing, jokes about underwear, bouncing on a trampoline and slap-stick comedy.

The highlight for many seemed to be a 3D voyage under the sea. One creative Year 6 pupil, who does not wish to be named, realised that by wearing multiple pairs of the supplied 3D glasses he could enjoy the events in glorious 9D. When Sony cotton on to this idea and you see one of their 9D TVs on sale in next year's 'Black Friday' spectacular** remember where you heard it first!

    Until next year...

    *As the pictures clearly show.

** If this is still a 'thing' by then.

  • Year 3 & 4 enjoy a Festive Crafternoon!

Thu 10 Dec 2015 Mr Warren

With Christmas rapidly approaching, all of the children from Year 3 and 4 came together (along with many of their parents) to take part in the annual festive craft afternoon.

Children took part in a  wide range of winter craft activities decorating christmas cards, creating tree baubles, decorating reindeer biscuits and making a range of decorations as icing, glue and glitter filled the air!

Thank you to everyone who came along and took part in what was a fantastic event.

  • Nursery Stay & Play Adventures

Thu 10 Dec 2015 Miss Doherty

This week, our Nursery children enjoyed the very special treat of having their mums and dads play with them in Nursery as part of a Stay and Play session. Children decorated (and ate!) festive biscuits, made beautiful glittering table decorations, packed bags full of magical reindeer food and wrapped sparkling wool around star baubles.

Everyone had a fantastic time - we can wait to do another session next term!

Please check out Miss Doherty's blog for more photos.

  • Y6 Safety Works

Sun 06 Dec 2015 Mr. Lawson
Earlier in the week, our Year 6 children visited 'Safety Works' in Newcastle. This action packed morning looked at how to stay safe in a variety of situations, such as when crossing the road, using the Metro and being 'out and about' with friends. It was a fantastic experience for all the children and a perfect way for them to learn about the consequences their choices can bring when adults are not around.

Certain members of our class even ended up in handcuffs... don't worry though, it was only part of the experience!
  • All Aboard The Polar Express!

Thu 03 Dec 2015 Mrs Hooker

Year 3 set off for school on a dreary Monday morning and found an amazing winter wonderland in their classroom!

The classroom was transformed into the Polar Express, complete with train seats and fake snow. The children had been sent exclusive tickets inviting them to board the imaginary journey.

Mr Warren said, "Giving children the chance to experience stepping on board the Polar Express gives them so many learning opportunities – they become immersed in the experience and because they physically experience the story, they find it so easy to write about it. It really brings learning to life."

Everyone had an amazing day and worked so hard to produce some fabulous work.

  • Our fantastic "Crafternoon"

Tue 01 Dec 2015 Mrs. Collins

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had a great time and have begun getting in the festive spirit.

This afternoon, we welcomed parents and carers to make winter and Christmas crafts. Samuel in Year 1 called it a "Crafternoon" and we love the name!

Children made reindeer antlers, iced biscuits, made snowflake decorations, made reindeer dust, decorated pine cones and made 3D character cones. It was fantastic to watch everybody having such a great time and children and adults working together to perfect their masterpieces.

Thank you to everyone who came along and special thanks to Mr Nicholson for cleaning up after us!
