Everyone had a fantastic time on this year's panto trip to see Cinderella. All of the children from Reception to Year 6 boarded the buses to the Theatre Royal filled with excitement. They arrived at the theatre and took their seats as they waited for the show to begin...
Once the story of Cinderella was underway, there was lots of boos, cheers, clapping, sing-a-longs and laughs, as all of the children enjoyed the show. There were many highlights, including a 3-D experience, a fantastic magic performance, some wonderful songs and Mr Wynn and Mr Warren being mistaken for the Ugly Sisters!
All of the children in Year 1, 2 and 3 were treated to some high energy basketball sessions this week courtesy of the fantastic Newcastle Eagles.
All of the children demonstrated a fantastic approach to the sessions and showed a great level of determination and enthusiasm; the event was a resounding success with everyone having a great time (as you can see from the pictures). We are all looking forward to the next taster sessions and the upcoming 'mini-dribblers' after school club due to start in January.
A group of children from Year 5 were given specialist 'Playground Leaders' training this week courtesy of Shape Performance Ltd. Each of the children completed an application form to explain why they wanted to be a playground leader and what they could bring to the role. All of the children demonstrated the qualities and attitudes required to take on a leadership role as part of the PE team at school.
The children's training outlined the role of a leader and gave them practical experience of delivering and leading coaching sessions for younger children on the yard. Well done to everyone who took part and is now a successful member of Caedmon's Playground Leaders.
The KS2 rehearsals are already underway for the Christmas production, to be held on Friday 9th December. The songs they have practised so far sound excellent and everything they need to do so at home (music and lyrics) are available on the Y6 class website, which you can find via the link below.
This term the nursery children have started a Living Books project, which has been developed by Seven Stories. The aim of the project is to encourage reading and a love of books.
The project was started with a fantastic story party, hosted by a representative from Seven Stories. Children and their parents alike got fully involved in the amazing owl stories, busily building nests and flying like owls as they became fully involved in the adventure with some imaginative role-play.
The project will continue throughout the year. Nursery children will also be involved in a range of activities that are linked to these inspiring books. Look out for our new book display in the nursery entrance to see which books your children are enjoying this half term.
A handful of our talented writers from Year 5 and Year 6 attended a writing workshop at Kelvin Grove today, working with Colin Parsons - a published author - to produce some pieces of work within a fantasy setting. From the looks on their faces when they arrived back at the end of the day, it seems they had a very good time.
Some of the writing they produced certainly made for interesting reading!
Year 2 went on an important trip to Saltwell Park last week to visit the Garden of Remembrance, commemorating all of the those who have died in conflicts around the world since World War 1.
All of the children were extremely respectful and acted with maturity, showing their understanding of the significance of the garden and asking some fantastic questions.
During our visit, we were lucky enough to meet someone from the Royal British Legion charity, who helped us make a contribution in the form of a cross that Olivia had made at home, to help us remember all of those who have sadly passed away.
