  • Year 1 and Year 2 Outdoor Learning Project

Mon 31 Oct 2016 Mr Warren
Year 1 and Year 2 have been exploring the outdoor learning environment at Dunston Staiths as part of an exciting outdoor learning project. We have been working together to search the natural outdoor environment, using our sense to discover the different features and creatures which fill the world around us. As part of the project the children took part in a nature walk, made bird feeders, composed drawings and sketches of the different things they could hear, created natural camouflage and even raced some snails!!  All of the children thoroughly enjoyed the experiences and joined in a celebration afternoon toasting marshmallows and trying elderflower water
  • Raising Aspirations: Y6 Visit Newcastle University

Thu 20 Oct 2016 Mr. Lawson
Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed a visit to Newcastle University to learn about what day-to-day life is like in higher education and the job opportunities it can open up. The range of subjects and activities on offer surprised a lot of them and many said afterwards that they wanted to go to University to study when they are older, with aspirations ranging pretty much all the way through from author to zoologist!
  • Strong End To Football Season

Thu 20 Oct 2016 Mr. Lawson

An incredible team performance led to a massive 8 - 0 victory for the football team tonight in the last league game of 2016. Building on previous games, a slight reorganisation led to a glut of goals with the opposition having little in response to the intense pressing game played by Caedmon.

Though there were four different players on the scoresheet, it was a case of strong performances all round, as build-up play leading to the goals frequently involved all of the players on the pitch.

Top performances from the boys in red - well done!

    Goals: van Gjini (3), Leo (2), Gbolahan (2) & Rohail (1)

  • Y5 Visit the Hancock Museum

Wed 19 Oct 2016 Miss Donnelly
Year 5 visited the Hancock Museum today as part of their History work learning about the ancient Egyptians. They had a fantastic time exploring the interactive displays and coming face to face with the Hancock's own mummy - an experience not soon forgotten!
  • Super School Council

Tue 18 Oct 2016 Mrs Collins
Our fantastic school council held their first meeting yesterday. They were discussing Class Dojo, our reward system. The children made very incisive comments and suggestions which will further enhance the work of the school. They also gave very positive feedback about the after school club provision this term and again made some excellent suggestions which have been taken on board by staff. We hope to implement some of these clubs after Christmas.
  • Year 1 travel to the moon!

Tue 18 Oct 2016 Mrs Collins
We have done some super cross curricular learning in Year 1. Today, we found out about the events of the first Moon landing, we then improved our writing using adjectives. After that we planned and performed a dance to retell the events of the moon landing. Mrs Collins needs to figure out how to add a video to the website, but if you want to see it please check out our facebook page!
  • Y3 Roman Mosaics

Sat 15 Oct 2016 Mr. Minett
Year 3 recently visited the Shipley Art Gallery as part of their work learning about the Romans, to examine the mosaic patterns within the building. Back at school, they had a fantastic time carefully creating their own patterns using small tiles.
  • Football League - Latest Results

Thu 13 Oct 2016 Mr. Lawson

A few lucky staff members and parents witnessed two fantastic performances from the school football team tonight, as they took part in the second round of league fixtures at South Street.

The first game (against Carr Hill) ended with Caedmon coming from behind to steal a 2 - 1 victory. Two superb solo efforts from Leo and Gbolahan wrapped up the three points after a dominating second half performance.

Entertaining passing football and excruciating near-misses followed in the subsequent 3 - 0 defeat at the hands of South Street, a scoreline that definitely did not reflect the level of both teams' performances.

The third and final round of fixtures will take place next week - well done to everyone who took part this time around.

  • Y2 Enormous Crocodiles Invade Saltwell Park!

Mon 10 Oct 2016 Mr Warren

Saltwell Park was overrun with 'Enormous Crocodiles' this week when Year 2 visited the park to recreate some of their own secret plans and clever tricks taken from the Roald Dahl Story.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed using the story as a stimulus for Literacy this half term and enjoyed visiting the park in the role of the enormous crocodile to see if they could catch a juicy child for their lunch. Thankfully everyone made is home safely without being gobbled up!

  • Board Games Club

Mon 03 Oct 2016 Mrs Collins
Our "Board Games Club" are really enjoying getting together on a Thursday, learning some new games and developing our team work and a range of maths skills. If you have any board games at home that are no longer required we would love any donations. All we ask is that that any board games have all the pieces intact. Please send games in to Mrs Collins (or via the school office). Thank you!
