September reopening

Please see below  a letter detailing our plans for September reopening.

Reminder that school is closed on Monday 6th September as it is INSET day. We will reopen to Reception - Year 6 children on Tuesday 7th September. Nursery reopens on Monday 13th September.

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the Start of the new academic year 2021-22. Our intention is to give the children as normal a school year as possible.

Please see below for our plans for this year. We would be most grateful if you would inform us if your child is classed as extremely clinically vulnerable so we can put individual risk assessments in place.

Breakfast club

Breakfast club will be able to be accessed by children in Reception to Year 6. Unfortunately we won't be offering places for Nursery children in the first instance. Places need to be booked in advance and numbers will be capped. Entry will be from Gate A between 8:00 and 8:15am. Children who are not booked into Breakfast club or anyone who arrives late will unfortunately not be able to attend. If you have not booked your childs place in Breakfast club please contact the school office ASAP.

Soft Start

School will operate a soft start to the day. Children can be dropped off at school anytime between 8:35and 8:50am at Gates A&C. There will be a member of staff on each gate to greet the children. Parents of children in Year 1 to Year 6 must leave them at the gates. We would be grateful if one parent only could attend school drop off/collection, wear a face covering/mask and vacate the school perimeter as soon as possible to avoid congestion. Children will line up on the yard and be escorted into school with a member of staff. Nursery and Reception parents may access the school grounds via Gate A and travel to the bottom yard where they will be met by a member of staff to line up and go into class.

End of the day

All gates will be opened by staff at 3:05pm.

Reception parents will use Gate A and be directed to the bottom yard to collect the children. This gate will be manned and parents of children from other classes will be directed to alternative gates.

Year 1&2 (KS1) will line up on the top yard at 3:05pm and be handed over at gates B&C.

Year 1 will come out of Gate B, Year 2 Gate C. Parents will only be able to access the school yard if they are waiting to collect a sibling from an older year group. The gates will be closed once KS1 children have been dismissed.

Year 3,4,5&6 (KS2) will then line up on the top yard and the gates will be reopened by staff at 3:15pm. All children with siblings in Reception & KS1 will be handed over to parents and leave via Gate A. All other children will be dismissed to parents at the gate.

Year 4&6 will come out of Gate C, Years 3&5 out of Gate B. Gates will be closed once the children have been dismissed.

Nursery and Reception parents will use Gate A and be directed to the bottom yard to collect the children.

Year 5&6 will have the option to walk home alone with parents permission. A separate letter will be sent out to those year groups. Children will only be able to walk home once the letter has been signed and returned to school. Home walkers will be dismissed after other children have left.

PE days

Your childs PE days will be confirmed in their class teachers 'Welcome letter' in the first week back to school. Your child will be issued with a red t-shirt with the school logo on which they will bring home with them. They must come to school wearing this plus either black shorts/leggings/jogging bottoms and trainers on their PE days.

Water bottles

Can all children please continue to bring their own labelled water bottles each day to school, as the water fountains continue to not be in use. We do have a small amount of spare bottles in case someone forgets to bring theirs.

Communication with staff

If you need to discuss anything with the school office you may access during the school day. If you need to discuss anything with your childs teacher or senior staff this can be done at the end of the school day in an outside space. Alternatively you can telephone on 0191 433 4095 or by email at caedmoncommunityprimaryschool@gateshead.gov.uk We will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.

What happens if my child or a family member has symptoms or tests positive for Covid?

Your child should self-isolate straight away and get a PCR test ASAP if they gave any of these 3 symptoms of Covid-19, even if they are mild:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

You should also self-isolate straight away if:

  • you've tested positive for Covid-19 - this means you have the virus
  • you've been told to self isolate following contact with someone who tested positive - find out what to do if you're told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app

Children will not need to isolate if someone they live with has symptoms of COVID-19, or has tested positive for COVID-19. We would ask that you inform school if someone within the household has COVID-19 and your child will be attending School. We would also recommend that the child goes for a PCR test.

If a child or member of staff within school tests positive for COVID-19 the class will no longer need to close. All children can attend school as normal.

Please see below for time to arrive and drop off locations for each class.
