Welcome to Year 5!

Hello and welcome to our Year 5 class page!

Our Year 5 teaching team includes Mrs Inns, Miss Gillam and Mr French.

• Mrs Inns will teach the class on a Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Thursday and Friday.
• Mr French will teach the class on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon.
• Miss Gillam is our teaching assistant who will be supporting learning all week.

In Year 5, we aim to provide exciting and challenging learning opportunities that help every child to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. We believe it is important to give children the skills they need to learn, grow and have fun both inside and outside of school.

PE

Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

On these days, children should come to school wearing their PE kit:

• A red school PE top (provided)
• A red Caedmon hoodie (provided)
• Tracksuit bottoms/leggings
• Trainers or sandshoes

Swimming

Throughout the year, we will be visiting Gateshead Leisure Centre for our swimming lessons which are part of the National Curriculum.

On swimming days, children should:

• Come to school in their uniform.
• Bring a swimming kit to change into (no bikinis or loose trunks).
• Leave all jewellery at home (jewellery is not permitted in the pool).

Home Learning

Reading is a vital part of learning. Children are expected to read for around 15 minutes each day during the week.

• Each child will bring home a reading book linked to their Accelerated Reader ZPD.
• A reading diary will also be provided to record progress and comments.
• Please check, sign, and comment in your child’s diary regularly to support their progress.
