Welcome to Caedmon School Nursery! We are thrilled to welcome your child and cannot wait to get to know them as they begin their education. At our school, we believe in creating a warm, supportive, and fun environment where children can grow, learn, and explore. Our dedicated Nursery staff ensures every child feels safe, loved, and encouraged to develop their skills at their own pace.

Nursery is an exciting time for children as they begin to form the foundations of their time at Caedmon. It is a time when children develop friendships, explore their own interests and learn new skills.

The Nursery classroom is well-resourced with lots of opportunities for your child to learn through play and exploration. Children can engage in imaginative role-play, creative activities, sensory play and physical outdoor learning. As well as specific areas of learning such as mathematics, literacy, art and design, and understanding the world, we aim to give children the opportunities to develop the fundamental, prime areas of learning such as personal and social skills, physical skills, and communication which enable them to develop skills to become confident learners.

Nursery Staff:

Your child will work with Mrs Carey - the nursery teacher - and two fabulous teaching assistants - Mrs Devlin and Miss Hughes.

Mrs Carey's non-contact time is Monday afternoons and Tuesday full day. During this time, Miss Copely will cover the class.

What to Bring:

  • Water Bottle: Please send your child in with a water bottle every day, clearly labeled with their name.

  • Spare Clothes: It’s always a good idea to pack a spare set of clothes in case of any little accidents or messy play! Again, please ensure your child's name is written on each item of clothing.

  • Snacks & Milk: We provide snacks and milk throughout the day, so your child doesn’t need to bring any additional food (unless they are staying a full day session and require packed lunch.)

Session Times:

  • Morning Session: 8:45 AM to 11:45 AM (please ensure prompt pick-up at 11:45 AM).

  • Afternoon Session: 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM (doors open at 3:15 PM for pick-up).

My Special World

My Special World is a book that the children take home each Wednesday and return the following week. You and your child can work together to fill the book with information about your child, their likes and dislikes, special occasions, trips, family events etc. You can present the book however you wish, with photographs, drawings, tickets, stickers etc. Your child will then share the book with us at Nursery. If you need anything to help you complete the book, such as glue and pencils, or if you'd like to see an example of a My Special World book then please ask.

Library Books

Each week children will choose a library book which they will bring home. We ask that you share the book with children at home and return the book each Wednesday.

Class Dojo

Each child has an account on Class Dojo which is used during the year to award points and keep you up-to-date with what's going on in Nursery. If you need a log in, please let Mrs Carey know.

PE

Your child will take part in PE lessons once a week. On a Wednesday. We would like children to come to school wearing their PE kit - children should wear leggings/tracksuit or jogging bottoms/shorts and their PE t-shirt (provided by school).

Toys

Although we appreciate that children love showing their toys, it is best that children do not bring personal possessions into nursery. In the past, children have lost or broken their toys and it can be very distressing for them. Our Nursery children become so good at tidying things away that toys can often disappear at tidy up time too!

Stay and Play

Throughout the year we will be inviting parents and carers to Stay and Play sessions to come into school with their child and enjoy the EYFS environment with them, playing and exploring. We will keep you up to date with these as we work throughout the year.

Uniform:
Uniform is not compulsory, however, if you wish your child can wear a red sweater (with or without the Caedmon logo), a white polo shirt and grey or black trousers or skirt. Uniform can be ordered from the school site. We also hold a uniform swap shop on the first Friday of each half term where donated uniform can be taken for free of charge.

Working Together

Supporting your child’s transition to nursery can make a big difference in their experience. You can help them get ready by talking about nursery in a positive and excited way. Encourage them to practice putting on their own coat or shoes, as well as using the bathroom independently. Set a routine for bedtime and morning preparations, so your child feels settled and ready for the day. It’s also helpful to create a morning routine where you give them plenty of time to eat, get dressed, and say goodbye with a smile, reassuring them that you’ll be back to pick them up soon. Little steps like these build confidence and make the transition smoother for both you and your child.

We want Nursery to feel like home from home for the children. We are looking forward to working with you all to develop strong links between home and school to ensure the best possible experiences for the children. We operate an open door policy so if you have any feedback, questions or concerns we are always available at the start and end of your child's Nursery session for a chat.
