Intent

At Caedmon Primary School, we believe that Computing is an essential part of preparing children for life in the modern world. We want all pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to use technology safely, responsibly and creatively, both now and in the future.

Our Computing curriculum provides children with opportunities to become problem-solvers, logical thinkers and resilient learners. Through learning about programming, digital systems, data and online safety, pupils develop the computational thinking skills needed to understand and interact with technology effectively.

We are committed to raising aspirations and helping children understand the role that technology plays in a wide range of careers and industries. Children at Caedmon have already identified careers such as engineers, app designers, sound technicians, retail workers, air traffic controllers, members of the armed forces and game designers as roles that involve computing. We believe children should be exposed to the opportunities that technology creates, not only within the North East but across the wider world.

Through real-world examples, enrichment opportunities and high-quality computing education, pupils begin to recognise how the skills they develop in Computing can support future education, employment and participation in an increasingly digital society.

By the time they leave Caedmon Primary School, pupils will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital world safely, confidently and responsibly, while understanding the opportunities that technology can provide both locally and globally.
