Year 3 Literacy

Some of the Year 3 children have been working very hard with Mrs Clennell this year. They have been working together as a team to develop their literacy skills and help one another to achieve their literacy targets. Here you can see they have been learning about sharks. Keep up the hard work!

Paired Reading

Many thanks to all of the parents and carers who have given up their time to come into school to listen to our children read. This has been going on for well over a year now and has made a huge difference to so many children in our school.
In addition to this, we have been lucky enough to have sixth formers from Joseph Swan and Emmanuel College coming in every week to listen to our children read and play games with them. So thanks too to all of the students and staff who have helped make this such a success. All of the hard work has really paid off as the children are gaining confidence in their reading every week.
Any parents/grandparents/carers who would like to come in and spend a few hours a week listening to children read would be more than welcome (please ask in the office for a CRB form or come in and we can have a chat!).
Thanks again for all of your hard work, Mrs McVicar.

Reading Buddies

I would like to thank all of our KS2 children who have been helping the younger children to practise their reading skills by teaming up as 'Reading Buddies'. The children involved have had a lot of fun together and have forged some very good friendships. Also I have recently assessed the progress of the children who have been helped by a buddy this year and have found that each child has made fantastic progress. This has impacted on the confidence of both the younger children as well as the buddies. Thanks to you all from Mrs McVicar.

No Limits Theatre Company

Throughout this academic year both Year 5 and 6 have been lucky enough to have had some fantastic drama workshops. These workshops have been taught by the 'No Limits' Theatre group which is based in Newcastle.
The Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts' and 'No Limits' work together to provide access to the arts for over 23,000 children.
Founded in 1995, No Limits Theatre is committed to socially inclusive projects that enable young people, disabled people and community groups to be involved in innovative theatre projects. The children have gained so much from working with such an inspiring group of people and we hope to work with them again in the future

The weather was awful but that did not dampen our spirits! The children got to take photos of all of the animals and talk to their parents about what they saw. I think you will agree that the morning was a huge success and most importantly the children all had a great time (even though some did not like the smell!!!!)
We look forward to seeing you again for the next workshops.

We are going to re-start Caedmon's Parents Forum. For those who do not know I will explain a little bit about how it works and the history of the group.

In 2008 we started the 'Parents Forum' as a way of giving the parents' of children at Caedmon School a voice. We used to meet every three weeks to discuss topics on an agenda and to work together to make the school even better.

This was a very successful group and many changes were made at school as a result of discussions with parents and their ideas were taken forward. This group became the Friends of Caedmon. Which is now a very successful group who organise many events for the children at Caedmon. You could say this was one of the most successful elements of the Parents' Forum.

However, we are looking to re-start the group and I will be inviting all parents to attend a meeting within the next week. You will be getting a letter about this in the next few days. If you would like to know more come and see me at school or come to the meeting on Thursday 4th March. In the letter I will ask you what is the best time: before school, during school or after school.

I look forward to this group re-starting and your help in constantly improving Caedmon School.

Clive Wisby (Head Teacher).

School closed Friday 8th January.

The conditions are not set to improve in the next day. For safety reasons there will be no school tomorrow. The safety of children, parents and staff has to be the priority.

It has proved very difficult for staff, deliveries of food, and other services to move around the area.

We are hoping that Monday will see some improvements in the weather and school can be opened. If there are any obvious signs of improvement or decisions made they will be put on this website and also the Gateshead.gov.uk site.
