Year 6

Take a look at our most recent experiment in Science......

As you can see, we had quite a task on our hands in finding out the function of a stem.  If it actually was able to transport water then, if the water was a different colour, surely this would change the plant somehow?  In order to test this out we had to be very careful when pouring the food colouring into the containers as well as cutting and placing the plant into these.  Feel free to take a look at the photographs to see how we got on!

A massive thank you needs to go to all the parents that helped to make the event such a huge success. I'm sure everybody will agree that it was the best day of their lives- it was defiantly the greatest year 6 leaving party in the history of Caedmon. Take a look at the photos at the bottom for some of the highlights...

Never mind the Tyne and Wear derby. Forget about that small game the two Manchester clubs play twice a season. This was the derby to end all derbies - Caedmon Vs Brighton Avenue! A grudge match like never before, the two schools met this evening for the first time in years in a winner takes all showdown (i.e. a friendly!). After such a huge build up, normally the game would disappoint but not in this instance. Despite home advantage in favour of Brighton Avenue, it was our beloved Caedmon that came out victorious winners, 2-1. Ryan Barrass set up Jack Wood in the first half with the boys swapping roles in the second half, Jack setting up Ryan for his first of the school season. Despite some late tension and a goal, the children managed to hang on thanks to some amazing teamwork as well as mind-boggling saves from Joseph 'The Cat' Vickers. All in all, a great evening!

During our Science week at Caedmon, the year 6 class were treated to a wide range of interesting and unique creatures.  However, be warned - viewed discretion is advised as these pictures are not for the faint hearted!

 Here is Sammy the Snail!

Check out the size of those legs!

Try to count the number of legs...

Sam was in his element - he had never been happier!

The snake escaped!  Lucky for Year 6, it was friendly and quite liked to be stroked.

As you can tell from the look on his face, Tom was not as brave as Abigail!

Our topic this term was World War 2 and during this we were able to go on a trip to Durham Light Infantry. They had a huge range of actual items that had been recovered from the war. Just look at the size of that gun! Here we got to learn about the different roles that people played within the war.

Here is an example of a working torch that a child in year 6 had made from scratch. They had to use their electrical science knowledge in order to complete the circuit as well as utilizing design and technology skills to make the torch look appealing.

During this term we were fortunate to have a Spanish expert visit us from Kingsmeadow Secondary School. We learned a variety of songs that helped us to remember various key Spanish words. The Spanish rap was indeed a highlight!

During this Literacy lesson, children have just learned how to write an argument to decide which novel they preferred. Here they are peer assessing each other's work to see if they were successful.

The children were lucky enough to learn how to write a World War 2 speech and have a chosen familiar character repeat this back to them.
