Introduction to Reception

Welcome to Reception Class
Miss Pallent is our class teacher. Mrs Owens is our classroom assistant.

What the children say...
Miss Pallent is very, very, very pretty. She likes reading stories and teaching us about Jolly Phonics. She loves shoes and anything pink. She is good with the computer and brilliant on the whiteboard.

What the children say......
Mrs Owens is very good at first aiding! She can even rescue things that get stuck up noses if she has to! She is brilliant at putting up displays and keeping us fit in P.E. lesssons. She helps us to bake things.

We have been learning about the seasons and had fun collecting Autumn leaves. We found out about hedgehogs and we made our own little clay hedgehogs.

Introduction to Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

We enjoyed the story about Meg and Mog. We made up our own spells and wrote about Meg on the computer.

While finding about our school and the locality we visited some local leisure areas.

The fire service came in to talk to us about fire safety and we tried on the uniform. The reflective strips showed up with the flash. The uniform was very heavy.

We made funny faces by colouring, cutting and curling paper. They are going to go on display in the school hall.

Introduction to Year 2

Welcome to Year 2
Year 2 have two teachers, Miss King and Mrs Bond. Mrs Drape is our classroom assistant.

What the children say..
Miss King is really nice. She is Irish and sometimes her words sound funny. She gives us fun lessons and she is very good at literacy and art. She dances on the tables to help us learn our spellings.

Mrs Bond likes doing maths and bringing her toys into school. She is a fun teacher.

What the children say.....
Mrs Drape helps us with our work and is good at art. She looks after us if we get ill and gets us dry clothes if we get wet. She is in charge of the uniform in our school.

We are having great fun being in Year 2 We are enjoy experiencing lots of different things both in school and out.

We enjoyed the story of ‘The Pizza Palace’. We made our own pizzas and enjoyed eating them. We designed our own pizzas and did some pizza maths!

In history this year we have been learning about The great fire of London. We made fiery pictures paints and pastels.

We had a fun week when we investigated pumpkins. We measured them and weighed them, estimated how many seeds were in and then counted them.

What the children say..
Mrs Wilson loves, loves, loves singing. She is very good at teaching drama and history. She is a fun teacher and sometimes she plays her favourite cd’s in class for us.

We are having great fun being in Year 3. We are enjoy experiencing lots of different things both in school and out.

We have been learning about the Romans in our history, literacy and art lessons.

Introduction to Year 4

Welcome to Year 4
Year 4 have two teachers, Mr Wisby and Mrs Wynter. Mrs Clennell is our classroom assistant.

What the children say..
Mr Wisby is brilliant at sports and maths. He supports Arsenal football team. He is really, really funny in class. He always makes us laugh. He has a puppet called Mr Oobalooba and he has a monkey called Tyne Tine. Don’t go in his cupboard- there’s a cupboard monster!

What the children say......
Mrs Wynter is a fun teacher.She is great at teaching us spellings and sport. Sometimes she dances around the class to songs she likes.

What the children say.....
Mrs Clennell is good at art and sewing and making costumes. She is very kind to us and helps us with our work. She helps Mr Wisby and Mrs Wynter too.

We are having great fun being in Year 4. We are enjoy experiencing lots of different things both in school and out.

We love our class mascot ‘Tyne Tyne’ who goes everywhere we go and enjoys learning too! He even comes on our school trips! Here he is enjoying a ride at our trip at The Centre for Life.

In history this year we have been learning about the Tudors and enjoyed a visit to The Shipley Art Gallery where we met Mistress Elizabeth Maddison, the wife of a rich Tudor merchant. She told us lots of interesting things about life in Tudor Times.

We also took part in the Newcastle Gateshead’s Winter Light festival ‘Glow’ ( 30th Nov – 2nd Dec and 7th – 9th Dec). We worked together, with the help of the artists to make several light installations which will displayed at Saltwell Towers soon!

In Art and ICT we have been creating our own portaits using various collage materials to portay diferent textures, colours and effects. These portaits will be displayed in the main hall for everyone to enjoy!

In Literacy we have been studying the author Roald Dahl and we loved reading ‘ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. We had loads of fun at our Chocolate Day! Designing chocolate wrappers, cooking with chocolate and tasting the chocolate.

Introduction to Year 5

Welcome to Year 5
Mr Pearson is our class teacher. Mrs Lisk and Mrs Caddle are our classroom assistants.

What the children say...
Mr Pearson is brilliant at art and maths. He is funny and we like being in his class. He is a good teacher and he is always there if you need to talk to him so he is like a friend as well. He likes Mars bars and Newcastle United.

Mrs Caddle is good at baking and helping people if they are stuck on their work. She likes doing drama and helps us to get costumes for plays.

She helps us a lot with our maths and helps us with any work we have to do. She helps Mr Pearson to put our work on display.

We have been drawing faces and looking carefully at eyes. Faces will always show emotion so you can tell how the person feels.

What the children say…

We have great teachers. They teach us new things and help us out when we get stuck. They meet our needs in our times of need!

In year 6 we learn lots of new stuff as well as revising all the things we learned in previous years, so we are prepared for our S.A.T.S.

Our teachers organise lots of really good activities for us, both in school and out of school on trips. We also have lots of interesting visitors coming into school to teach us and show us stuff.

Lots of new children have joined our school because we are very welcoming, pleasant and exciting.

On Fridays, the school has a celebration assembly where the teachers congratulate and reward us for our excellent work and outstanding behaviour.

Technology: Making Masks

We designed and produced our own Masquerade masks using lots of different materials.

Science

We are taking part in the ‘Primary Electronics Project’ in partnership with Emanuel college.

This year we will be working around the theme of “Generating Power�. Our designs are at a very early stage and we will be working more on them after we have done our SATS.

Literacy

We have done lots of work in class based on William Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. We have written play scripts, love letters from one character to another (see below), character profiles, story re-tells, leaflets, posters, and a biography of ‘The Bard’ himself.
